Abstract
Three shallow-water species of Centrostephanus are distributed between Australia and Chile. Their systematic relationships and possible dispersal factors are discussed. Centrostephanus sylviae n.sp. is described from San Felix and Juan Fernandez Islands off Chile. The morphology and variation of C. sylviae and closely related C. rodgersii and C. tenuispinus are discussed; the three species differ in spine morphology and tuberculation.
