NONHOMOGENEOUS BARS OPTIMAL WITH RESPECT TO DUCTILE CREEP RUPTURE

Pages 13-27 | Received 04 May 1994, Published online: 27 Apr 2007

Abstract

The paper deals with the problem of the optimal design of nonhomogeneous bars with respect to time of ductile creep rupture. Finite strain theory is applied. Comparison with bars of uniform strength is analysed. Some general theorems concerning optimality of bars of uniform initial strength are formulated and proved. Examples for certain simple materials are given.
