ABSTRACT
This article aims to improve the performance of radial distribution systems (RDSs) by accurately solving the optimal energy management of the active powers of distributed generation units based on renewable energy and the reactive powers of shunt compensator-based flexible AC transmission system technology. An adaptive African vultures optimizer (AAVO) is proposed and applied to optimize individually and simultaneously various objective functions, including the minimization of total power loss, minimization of total voltage deviation and maximization of the loading margin. The efficacy of the proposed AAVO method is validated on three RDSs, the 33-bus, the 85-bus and the large RDS with 141-bus, under normal conditions and considering uncertainties of loads. Compared to many other techniques, the results clearly demonstrate the robustness and competitiveness of the proposed new variant in solving the power management optimization of a large-scale RDS.
