Understanding Eritrea: inside Africa's most repressive state

Notes

1. Translation from the original Tigrinya by the author.

2. The G15 were prominent members of the EPLF/PFDJ – some of them founding members, including two former ministers of foreign affairs – who challenged the increasingly autocratic leadership of President Isaias Afwerki in the aftermath of the border war with Ethiopia. They demanded the implementation of the ratified 1997 Eritrean Constitution and further democratisation of Eritrea.
