ABSTRACT
This article focuses on a 2‐year accredited in‐service programme using distance materials offered to teachers involved in careers education and guidance. An evaluation after 1 year considers expectations, progress and needs of teachers who were unfamiliar with distance learning. Findings of this small scale evaluation (25 teachers, by questionnaire and interviews) at a point mid‐way through a programme can be only tentative, but concern a group of ‘ordinary’ teachers in mid‐career for whom ‘open learning’ of various kinds may be common in future.
