ABSTRACT

This in study, the applicability of CM-β-CD-Fe3O4NPs synthesis for eliminating boron from aqueous solutions. Identical techniques including BET, FT-IR, XRD and SEM has been utilised to characterise this novel material. The maximum adsorption efficiency of boron onto CM-β-CD-Fe3O4NPs was 98.0%, at optimum values of the pH, adsorbent dosage, boron concentration, and contact time were found to be 5, 0.3 g, 50 mg/L, and 60 min for boron onto CM-β-CD-Fe3O4NPs sorbent, respectively. The experimental equilibrium data was fitted to the conventional isotherm models and accordingly Langmuir isotherm has good applicability for the explanation of experimental data with maximum adsorption capacity (qmax) of the boron onto CM-β-CD-Fe3O4NPs were roughly 3.98 mgg−1 respectively. Kinetics experiments were performed to investigate the adsorption kinetics, the pseudo- second-order kinetic coincided quite with the kinetic results. The Thermodynamic parameters of free energy (ΔG0), enthalpy (ΔH0) and entropy (ΔS0) of adsorption were determined using isotherms. ∆G0 = −6755.5 J/mol, ∆H0 = −80.86 J/mol and ∆S0 = −250.517 J/mol. K. The negative value of (ΔGo, ΔHo and ΔSo) confirmed the sorption process was exothermic. The capability and usefulness of CM-β-CD-Fe3O4NPs for removing the boron from aqueous media was effectively proven. This method can not only adsorb harmful heavy metal elements, but also remove harmful substances, which has very high application value.
