Dissipation behaviour of bifenthrin in water at different pH levels under laboratory conditions

ABSTRACT

A laboratory experiment was conducted at AINP on Pesticide Residues, ICAR Unit - 9, AAU, Anand to study the dissipation behaviour of bifenthrin in water at different pH (4.0, 7.0 and 9.2) at the rate of 0.06 and 0.12 ppm. Samples were collected at different time intervals, extracted with a mixture of hexane/dichloromethane and analysed by gas chromatography equipped with electron capture detector. The results of the study indicated that the dissipation of bifenthrin in water is highly pH dependent. Bifenthrin showed lowest persistence at higher pH due to hydrolysis in alkaline conditions and highest in acidic water. In 60 days, dissipation was 82.76–88.27% at pH 4.0, 87.72–95.65% at pH 7.0 and 84.21–95-59% at pH 9.2. The half-life values were in the range of 5.1 to 43 and 1.3 to 50.2 days at single and double dose, respectively.
