Blood chemistry reference values for use in columbine hepatology

Summary

Reference values of nine plasma chemical variables considered to be of potential use for the (differential) diagnosis of hepatobiliary disease in racing pigeons (Columba livia domestica) were determined. Enzymes included creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate amino‐transferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, glutamate dehydrogenase, gamma glutamyl transferase and cholinesterase. Plasma bile acid concentrations were also measured.

Les valeurs de références de neuf constantes plasmatiques considérées comme utiles pour le diagnostic différentiel de maladies hépato‐biliaires chez le pigeon voyageur (Columba livia domestica) ont été déterminées. Les enzymes concernent la créatinine kinase, la lactate dehydrogenase, l'aspartate aminotransferase, l'alanine aminotransferase, l'alkaline phosphatase, la glutamate dehydrogenase, la gamma glutamyl transferase et la cholinesterase. Les concentrations plasmatiques en acide biliaire ont été également mesurées.

Zusammenfassung

Es wurden Referenzwerte von 9 chemischen Plasmaparametern bestimmt, die wahrscheinlich für die Differntialdiagnose hepatobiliärer Krankheiten der Reisetauben (Columba livia domestica) wertvoll sind. Es handelt sich um die Enzyme Kreatinkinase, Laktatdehydrogenase, Aspartataminotransferase, Alaninaminotrans‐ferase, alkalische Phosphatase und Cholinesterase. Die Plasmagallesäurekonzentrationen wurden ebenfalls bestimmt.

Resumen

Se consideró que los valores de referencia de las variables químicas del plasma, tienen un suso potencial en el diagnóstico diferencial de la enfermedad hepato‐biliaria en palomas de carreras, (Columbia livia domestica). Se midieron las concentraciones de enzimas tales como la creatinina, quinasa, lactato aminostrasferasa, alanino aminotrasferasa, alcalino fosfatasa, glutamato deshidrogenasa, gamma glutamil transferasa y colinesterasa. Asimismo, se midieron las concentraciones del ácido biliar plasmático.
