On a conjecture of drew and Johnson: maximizing the permanent

Pages 279-285 | Published online: 30 May 2007

Abstract

Drew and Johnson obtained an expression for max{per A}, where A runs through all 3–by–3 real symmetric positive semidefinite matrices with the given eigenvalues λ123, and conjectured that the expression can be improved. In this paper, we prove that their conjecture is correct.
