Abstract

Let F be an algebraically closed field. We denote by i(A) the number of invariant polynomials of a square matrix A, which are different from 1. For A,B any n×n matrices over F, we calculate the maximum of i(XAX−1 +B), where X runs over the set of all non-singular n×n matrices over F.
