Abstract
The reactions of the diethylphosphinous ester 2 with chlorine/dilithium perfluoropinacolate or hexafluoroacetone yield the isomeric phosphoranes, the 1,3,2λ5-dioxaphospholane 7 and the 1,2λ5-oxaphosphetane 6, respectively. The latter is obtained from the chloro-phosphetane precursor 4, which is available by thermal rearrangement at elevated temperatures from the 1,3,4λ5-dioxaphospholane 3. Compound 3 reacts with lithium hexafluoroisopropylate to form a third product, isomeric to 6 and 7. The phosphoranes 6 and 7 exhibit slow substituent permutation indicated by 1H and 19F NMR spectra. The two chiral centers in the molecule of phosphetane 4 are responsible for the presence of two diastereomers.
