Abstract
Louis Ducos du Hauron invented and developed the foundations of our present colour photographic systems. Since he forecast almost every current process of colour photography he may be justifiably called the father of colour photography. He was among the first to recognize the possibility of colour reproduction with three-colour separations. He pioneered and forecast the use of a bipack or tripack containing all the supports in one emulsion. Unfortunately technology had not yet advanced [0 the point where his thcories could be developed and put to practical use. In 1862 Ducos du Hauron disclosed the basic construction of a colour camera, utilizing two angled semi-reflecting and transmitting silver mirrors for dividing the lens beam into three parts.
