A proposed innovation strategy for Turkish port administration policy via information technology

Pages 151-167 | Received 30 Aug 2010, Accepted 08 Dec 2010, Published online: 11 Apr 2011

Abstract

The efficiency of communications among all the organizations which are somewhat connected to a seaport is crucial for effective port administration. The absence of such communication in Turkish maritime industry causes severe problems. Thus, this paper aims to develop a guideline for successful development of a port community system in Turkey on the basis of Strength–Weakness–Opportunity–Threat (SWOT) analysis of the current situation and benchmarking successful cases around the world. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were carried out with field experts of both public and industrial organizations. As a result, a three-stage development strategy was proposed.
