A CONSERVATION TREATMENT TO REMOVE RESIDUAL IRON FROM PLATINUM PRINTS

Summary

This article discusses a conservation treatment for the removal of residual iron from platinum prints, using the chelating agent disodium EDTA in conjunction with the reducing agent sodium dithionite. The prints treated were identified and the effectiveness of the treatment was monitored using EDXRF analysis.

L'exposé decrit brièvement des caracteristiques de la composition et l'histoire de la platinotype. Suivant la description de la dégradation des épreuves et supports, l'article discute des options de conservation. On constate qu'un traitement aqueux et basé sur la chelation est applicable aux platinotypes. On présente les éxperiences particulíèrestirées de la conservation de quatre objects. Une analyse par diffraction de rayons X etchrornatogaphie détermine la viabilité de ce traitement.

Zusammenfassung

Dieser Artikel beschreibt eine Restaurierungsmethode, urn überschüssiges Eisen aus Platindrucken mittels dem Komplexbildner EDTA in verbindung mit dem Bleichmittel Natriumdithionit zu entfernen. Anhand der EDXRF Analyse wurden die behandelten Platindrucke identifiziert und die Wirksamkeit der Restaurierungsmethode überwacht.
