A brief (and highly selective) history of the Institute of Paper Conservation

Summary

The article presents a brief history of the Institute of Paper Conservation, originally formed as the Paper Group (of the United Kingdom Group of the International Institute for Conservation) as it was then known, from its inception in 1976 to the present day. The authors have drawn on personal memories and those of some of the members who were involved with the group from its first, tentative beginnings through to its present existence as a world-wide organization of professionally accredited conservators.

Cet article propose une brève histoire de I'Institute of Paper Conservation (au départ dénommé Paper Group de l'United Kingdom Group de 1'International Institute for Conservation), depuis ses debuts en 1976 jusqu'a aujourd'hui. Les auteurs ont puisé dans leurs souvenirs et dans ceux de quelques membres du groupe de départ des origines jusqu'à l'actuel statut d'organisme mondial de restaurateurs reconnus professionnellement.

Dieser Artikel präsentiert eine kurze Geschichte des Institute of Paper Conservation von seiner Gründung im Jahre 1976 bis heute. Das Institut entstand ursprünglich als Paper Group des United Kingdom Group des International Institute for Conservation. Die Autoren beschreiben persönliche Erinnerungen und auch die einiger Kollegen, die seit den ersten zarten Anfängen der Gruppe bis zur heutigen weltweiten Organisation professionell anerkannter Konservatoren/Restauratoren Mitglieder sind.

Este artículo relata a grandes rasgos una breve historia del Instituto de Conservación de Papel, que originalrnente era llamado el Paper Group de la United Kingdom Group del International Institute for Conservation), desde su creación en 1976 hasta nuestros dias. Los autores se basan en sus recuerdos personales y en los de algunos de los miembros que formaron parte del grupo desde sus primeros y vacilantes pasos hasta su actual posición como organización internacional de conservadores profesionalrnente acreditados.
