Who Deserves Foundation Degrees?

Pages 197-206 | Published online: 03 Aug 2010

In this paper I consider whether the notion of desert has a basis in education in general, and in particular to the proposed new Foundation Degrees. I then explore the notions of higher education that have been put forward as the rationale for their development. On a different tack, I consider whether we should desire these awards rather than deserve them and who are entitled to the benefits. Finally the paper offers an alternative basis for education that could, I believe, form the basis for a higher education system that we all deserve.
