The trilobites of the ‘affaire Deprat’

Pages 359-362 | Received 28 May 1993, Published online: 27 Nov 2008

Abstract

In 1919, Jacques Deprat, a French geologist, was recognized as responsible for introducing apocryphal trilobites into the material he collected in Vietnam and South China (Yunnan). The attempt to rehabilitate his reputation at a special session of the French Geological Society is based on Durand-Delga's investigations. However, many of the arguments presented by Durand-Delga seem controversial and are discussed below.
