The Meaning of a Pregnancy to the Single Greek Migrant Girl

Pages 23-27 | Published online: 15 Apr 2008

Abstract

Most Hellenic migrants to Australia come to us from the mountainous rural areas and the many tiny islands which God is reputed to have cast into the sea as pebbles. The mountains' existence makes travel hazardous and some small villages remain quite insulated from the outside world. Even today, many regions cannot be reached by conventional methods of transport, while some fishing communities for which Greece is famous might only be reached by sea.
