Abstract
The social work profession has an important leadership role to play in the development and delivery of family life education programmes in Australia. While the public health model of prevention of disease or pathology receives some attention, social work education and interpersonal practice emphasizes the use of knowledge and skills for instituting and carrying out treatment programmes for clients defined as having some form of psychopathology.
