Pages 11-20 | Published online: 15 Apr 2008

Abstract

This paper gives an historical account of the successful development over ten years of the role and work of welfare officers in the Department of Repatriation and Compensation (Victorian Branch).

The planned growth of their role from case-aides to social workers, to co-workers in a social worker/welfare officer team is described, together with all the doubts and difficulties that were encountered and gradually overcome.
