Abstract

Cognitive theory has been given scant attention by social work literature. Cognitive theory assumes that the way a person feels and acts can be altered by modifying the way the individual thinks. This paper asserts that the helping process is essentially directed towards producing cognitive change. Consequently, cognitive theory is outlined and applied to aspects of the helping process.
