Bridging the Gap: Assisting New Graduates to Move into Employment

Pages 13-16 | Published online: 15 Apr 2008

Abstract

This article describes the trends revealed from an analysis of six years of employment studies of new Bachelor of Social Work graduates. Many of the trends identified flew in the face of previous assumptions. Barriers to employment such as age were discovered and so were gateways such as bilingualism. The most interesting result was the relationship found to exist between course content and success in obtaining a social work position, something which should give academics cause for reflection.
