Abstract
This article describes the evolution of differing models of Field Instruction for both the United States and Australia. Details are given of a university-based Practice-Research Unit designed as a field placement facility. As universities become more involved in the development of field placements, this model provides a greater opportunity for promoting linkages between classroom and field. A discussion is provided of the pertinent questions social work educators might raise as to the feasibility, implementation, and cost-effectiveness of such a model.
