Elective Mutism: A Mother As Therapist

Abstract

A child who was electively mute for three terms at kindergarten was treated during his first term at school. His mother, In co-operation with his class teacher, implemented a programme designed by the school social worker. Within three weeks the child was speaking freely within the classroom. This article describes the programme and presents the theoretical basis and rationale for Its design.
