Abstract
With the rapid expansion of the social services in recent years, social workers have moved into countless new programmes. They have written little of their work there, though.
The authors sought to answer questions about the work being undertaken, whether it was similar to the tasks undertaken in the traditional programmes or not. Their interest in so doing was to see if the answers had curricula implications for the Schools of Social Work.
The study revealed the workers' tasks as being very different in local government, so different that another question arose. Is this new social work or not social work?
