Implications of Medical Technology and its Impact on Social Work Values

Pages 21-28 | Published online: 15 Apr 2008

Abstract

A small research study was carried out in the Social Work Departments of three Melbourne teaching hospitals. The research enquired into the level of social work involvement in decision making concerning patients' welfare in areas dependent upon sophisticated medical technology.

The results indicate that social workers need to reconsider their values and also their skills if they are to be included as team members in these areas.
