Pages 11-17 | Published online: 15 Apr 2008

Abstract

The author identifies ways in which social work practice may be subject to legal scrutiny, including the role the media plays in determining the form of that scrutiny. The author examines some possible reasons why social workers have not been subjected to legal scrutiny in Australia, and concludes with a discussion of the possible consequences for social work practice overly concerned with the possibility of legal scrutiny.
