When you're up to your neck in alligators, it's hard to remember that the original aim was to drain the swamp: Some lessons from new zealand health sector reform

Pages 47-53 | Accepted 01 Jun 1993, Published online: 01 Feb 2008

Abstract

Five potential lessons from New Zealand health sector reform are outlined for social work practitioners and managers in the Australian context. Drawing from an illuminative case study of consumer experience with New Zealand health care services, the paper highlights a number of themes that are worthy of consideration by Australian social workers. Trans-Tasman experience signals the importance of the National Health Strategy Review for Australian social workers and urges the profession to take that review very seriously.
