Jim Radford

JIM RADFORD holds a senior faculty position at York University. His teaching and research interests are in the areas of decision making, stragetic planning, and information systems. He is the author of five books and numerous articles on these subjects. He has taught at the University of Waterloo, the University of Ottawa, and the Banff School of Advanced Management.

Martin Giesen

MARTIN GIESEN is a consultant with Jamieson and Radford Ltd. in the areas of strategic and tactical decision making, bargaining, information systems and operations research. He holds a DPHIL from the University of Sussex. He has taught at York University and has published on the subject of strategic decision making.

Robert Thompstone

ROBERT M. THOMPSTONE was Senior Co-ordinator of the Hydraulic Resources Group, Power Operations – Quebec, Alcan Smelters and Chemicals Ltd, Jont quiere, Quebec, where he worked for the last nine years. Prior to that, he spent two years with a consulting firm specializing in water resources management. Recently he has been named Assistant Superintendent of Supply Services for Alcan Smelters and Chemicals Ltd installations in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec. Mr Thompstone holds a BASC in civil engineering and an MASC in management sciences from the University of Waterloo, and a BSPADM in business administration from the Universite du Quebec a Chicoutimi. He is currendy completing his PHD thesis in the Department of Systems Design Engineering, University of Waterloo.

Keith Hipel

KEITH W. HIPEL is an Associate Professor and Associate Chairman for Undergraduate Studies within the Department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He obtained his Bachelors and PHD degrees in Civil Engineering; his Master’s degree was in Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. In addition to being a member of the American Water Resources Association, the American Geophysical Union and the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, Dr Hipel is an Associate Editor of Water Resources Bulletin and is Chairman of the Surface Runoff Committee of the Hydrology Section in the American Ceophysical Union. Besides doing engineering consulting in operational research, Dr. Hipel has taught special courses and seminars in other countries, such as Brazil, China, Japan, Singapore, and the United States. His present research interests include the use and development of stochastic modelling techniques in the geophysical sciences and the incorporation of political and non-quantitative considerations into the systems design of large scale engineering projects. In addition to co-authoring two textbooks and also co-editing two books in stochastic modelling, Dr Hipel has produced research that has been published in various international engineering and operational research journals.

A.I. Mcleod

A.I. MCLEOD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences at the University of Western Ontario. He holds a PHD in Statistics from the University of Waterloo for which he won the doctoral gold medal prize in 1978. His main research interests are in the theory and application of time series models, stochastic hydrology, and statistical algorithms.

Arjang Assad

ARJANG A. ASSAD is currently Associate Professor of Management Science and Statistics at the College of Business and Management of the University of Maryland. He completed his undergraduate ancl graduate studies at MIT, obtaining a Masters degree in Operations Research in 1976 and his PHD in Management Science in 1978. His research interests include transportation networks modelling, mathematical programming, and distribution management, with special emphasis on rail network models and vehicle routing and scheduling. He is currently serving as an Associate Editor of Operations Research in the area of Distribution, Networks, and Facility Planning.

Sang Nguyen

SANG NGUYEN is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Operations Research at the University of Montreal. He has an engineering degree in physics (1968) and an M SC and a PH D (1976) degree in computer science and operations research from the University of Montreal. His research interests include applications of non-linear and network optimization techniques to transportation planning and analysis.

Nelson Maculan

NELSON MACULAN is currently a Professor in the Coordenagao dos Programas de Pos-graduagao de Engenharia and Associate Professor in the Instituto de Matematica at Federal University of Rio de Janiero, Brazil; since January 1982 he has been Visiting Professor in the Departement d’informatique et de recherche operationnelle de l’Universite de Montreal. In January 1983 he became Vice-President of IFORS (International Federation of Operational Research Societies). Professor Maculan obtained a B sc in Mining Engineering (1965), a DEA in Statistics (1967), and a PHD in Production Engineering (1975). He has written numerous papers and two books, Programafdo Linear (1980) and Programagao Linear Inteira (1978).
