Sensitivity of ethanolic extract of Aegle marmelos-based Amasof-e, an organic antifungal product, against Pyricularia grisea that causes blast disease of rice

Abstract

In order to enhance the efficacy of the ethanolic extract of Aegle marmelos, the present study was under taken. The ethanolic extract was combined with a formulating agent (coded Y+) and named Amasof-e, bioassayed under in vitro condition against Pyricularia grisea Sacc. which causes blast disease of rice. The product was found to inhibit conidial germination completely at 0.01% and mycelial growth at 0.1%, whereas the extract alone could inhibit the germination only partially at the same concentration. Studies on the shelf-life effect of the product showed retention in fungitoxicity at 0.1% concentration till 24 months of storage period. The efficacy of the product was also assessed in the green-house condition and compared with the standard fungicide carbendazim. This formulated product has therefore improved the efficacy of fungitoxicity compared to the unformulated botanical extract under in vitro and in vivo conditions and also found comparable with standard fungicide carbendazim (Bavistin 50%wp).
