Mobility of population in the Finnish County of Uusimaa (Nyland) I821–1880

Abstract

The period considered here is a significant one, marking as it does the end of the pre-industrial era in Finland. The paper presents data on population movements by rural and urban breakdown, and by various social and economic categories, and examines the factors affecting the geographical mobility in the county of Uusimaa (Nyland), in which Helsinki, the Capital of Finland, is situated.
