Abstract
In the past forty years a number of bibliographies of sea voyages have appeared, for example Edward G. Cox's practical and comprehensive book, A Reference Guide to the Literature of Travel, two vols., (Washington, 1935-38), Frank B. Maggs's exhaustive Voyages and Travels in All Parts of the World, five vols., (London, 1942 ff.), and The National Maritime Museum's excellent annotated Voyages and Travels, the first volume of which was published in London in 1968. Each of them has its own character, virtues and failings.
