Any study of the East India Company should incorporate an analysis of its maritime expeditions as they formed an integral part of the general economic activities of those shipping companies specialising in trade with the Far East. Een bijdrage tot de maritieme, economische en sociale geschiedenis van Noordwest-Europa in zijn betrekkingen met het Verre Oosten,’ Brussels, 1975, which will be published in 1979 in an English translation by G. Desmet—Huysman of Courtrai, Belgium.

Christian Koninckx, born 1948, Ph.D. in history, the Humanities librarian at the Free University of Brussels (V.U.B.). Member of the Marine Academy of Belgium. Published i.a. about eighteenth century economic history and especially the Swedish East India Company in: Bijdragen tot de Geschiedenis (1973), Revue du Nord (1972), Mededelingen van de Marine Academie (1971–1972 & 1973–1975) and Handelingen van de Koninklijke Zuidnederlandse Maatschappij voor Taal- en Letterkunde en Geschiedenis (1977).
