Abstract
Official data relating to national income have been published in Finland since 1948, when a bureau for national income statistics was provisionally set up in the Central Statistical Office. Previously, the only material on this subject available in Finland was Valter Lindberg's Suomen kansantulo 1926–1938 (Finland's National Income 1926–1938).Footnote 1 At the beginning of the 1950s this pioneer study of national income was revised and extended by Eino H. Laurila in his article, ‘Suomcn kansantulo vuosina 1926–1949’ (Finnish National Income from 1926 to 1949).Footnote 2 In Sweden on the other hand the computation of national income has been a matter of interest since the 1930s when the national income for the period 1860–1930 was calculated.Footnote 3
