Abstract

As many Swedes have relatives in America. this has in recent decades helped to stimulate widespread public interest in the subject of emigration to North America. Research into its problems has been undertaken at several Scandinavian universities, notably in Uppsala, where at least ten dissertations have been published on different aspects of the subject. One of the latest additions to the field is this work, consisting of studies in Swedish emigration to North America during the period 1850–1880.
