Controlling the Transition of Long- and Short-Chain Branching Polypropylene

Abstract

To control the length of branched chains on polypropylene under different quantities of monomer and free radical capture agent, trimethylol propane triacrylate (TMPTA) was chosen as monomer, and tetraethylthiuram disulfide (TETDS) was chosen as free radicals capture agent, also known as co-agent. Samples were modified by melting reaction in the presence of DHBP, 2,5-Dimethyl-2,5(tert-butylperoxy) hexane, in an internal mixer. From the results of the experiment, it was concluded that controlling of transition from long-chain branching PP to short-chain branching PP was achieved via the quantity variation of TMPTA and TETDS.
