Design of Biopolymeric Architecture with Thiolated Chitosan–Poly (Lactic Acid) Blend/Methionine Modified Clay for the Controlled Release of Amoxicillin

Abstract

In recent years, a major class of drug delivery vehicles that has received attention is represented by layered materials, which can intercalate therapeutic compounds between their layers. They can be used as delivery matrices, as the release of drugs from intercalated layered materials is potentially controllable. The purpose of the current study focused mainly on the development of a novel drug carrier vehicle, i.e., biodegradable thiolated chitosan- poly (lactic acid) blend incorporated with methionine modified montmorillonite composites for the controlled release of amoxicillin. The effects of pH and initial concentration on drug loading, swelling studies and controlled release were studied.
