Effects of Silica, Vinyl-Terminated Polydimethylsiloxane (VPDMS) and PMHS-Grafted-POSS (PH) Nanocomposites: Morphology, Thermal Behavior and Mechanical Property

Abstract

Nanocomposites with different cross-linking agents (PH and PMHS) and silica were prepared. Morphology, thermal and mechanical properties of nanocomposites respectively studied by means of SEM, TGA and universal tensile testing machine. The results revealed that the thermal stabilities and mechanical properties were significantly enhanced by using PH compared with PMHS when silica was added. From the obtained results, it was found that “synergistic” effect of PH on thermal stability and mechanical property of nanocomposites existed. The striking “synergistic” effect of PH on thermal and mechanical properties of nanocomposites was mainly attributed to the organic/inorganic hybrid cross-linking agent of PH.
