Explicit approximate solutions for S_B

Abstract

For the region in the (β₁, β₁) plane bounded by β₁ = 0, β₂−1=0, β₁=9, and the lognormal line, approximate formulas for the fundamental parameters, γ and δ, are given in terms of β₁ and β₁. The solution can be completed using simple quadrature formulas for the scale and location parameters, λ and ζ. The formulas can be implemented on small programmable calculators with accuracy sufficient for most practical purposes.
