A note on the estimation of rate parameters in stochastic compartmental models

Abstract

Two approaches to estimating rate parameters in stochastic compartmental models are compared. It is shown that the methods are essentially equivalent both computationally and in terms of asymptotic efficiency. A direct comparison is made using data from a cancer treatment follow-up study.
