Inverse sampling: a composite approach

Pages 1033-1042 | Received 01 Nov 1994, Published online: 17 Feb 2010

Abstract

This article describes a two-stage composite sampling scheme to locate a fixed number of rare items in a sample. A recursion formula is developed to compute the expected costs associated with this sampling scheme. The two-stage scheme is shown to be cost effective when compared with the traditional method of individual testing.
