Abstract
The federal funding of technical preparation/associate degree (TPAD) programs and local secondary/postsecondary consortia has pushed program articulation agreements to the forefront of vocational program development. A brief history of articulation is given, along with a description of the relationship of TPAD programs to articulation and definition of key terms used in the literature (advanced placement, advanced skills, and 2 + 2, and 2 + 2 + 2 articulation). The benefits of TPAD programs are listed, and recommendations are made with regard to the steps that must be taken to realize these benefits.
