An inventory of attitudes toward the doctor of arts in speech

Pages 265-272 | Published online: 18 May 2009

Abstract

Interest in teaching vis‐à‐vis research doctorates has produced the Doctor of Arts. This partial report of a nationwide questionnaire survey indicates that the field of speech‐communication may provide a market for it, particularly in two‐year and four‐year institutions; even if the D.A. is not installed, graduate departments will want to rethink portions of their Ph.D. programs in light of questionnaire responses.
