Reading a play

Pages 103-110 | Published online: 18 May 2009

Abstract

Theatrical imagination is demanded from the silent reader of plays. This article suggests methods of introducing students to plays and furthering their enjoyment of a silent reading through questioning and discussion. Visualizing a play can be facilitated if operative words or images are found which circumscribe the complex of students' responses. Classroom exercises designed to train students' theatrical imaginations are proposed.
