The role of speech in self development, self‐concept, and decentration

Abstract

Speech holds an essential role in self development, self‐concept, and decentering through Dance's linking function. The paper incorporates research from several fields which shows the primacy of the spoken word in linking an individual to society, thus enabling one to move from egocentrism to selflessness, approaching self‐actualization.
