Power, status, and upward communication in small decision‐making groups

Abstract

This study experimentally investigated the effects of two independent variables (power and status) on content characteristics of messages directed upward in a hierarchy. The evidence indicates that power, rather than status, influences the content characteristics of messages directed upward by subordinates.
