Abstract
Investigation in a static field experiment near Moscow shows that long-term green manure with White Mustard (Sinapis alba) in combination with straw manure eliminates the negative effects of highly specialised crop rotations on humus content and soil physical properties of a Humic Podsol. Green manure produces a loose plow layer and increases the stability of soil aggregates as well as the permeability and the biological and fermentative activity of soil. Green manure had positive ecological and phytosanitary effects and increased yield and grain quality up to the level of crop rotations with a cereal content of 50%. In Central Russia NPK fertilisation with green and straw manure may increase cereal production by 65–70%.
