Abstract
Lack of adequate availability of water can adversely impact the total as well as marketable quality of potato tuber production. Tuber initiation stage is the most critical growth stage for water stress. In this paper, effects of different water regimes on tuber yield and quality under different production systems are discussed. Deficit irrigation in general showed negative impact on the tuber yield as well as quality. Soil water management influences the fate and transport of nitrogen in soils, therefore, best management practice of both water and nitrogen are critical to optimize uptake efficiencies and minimize leaching losses.
