Sugar‐food intake of obese and lean adolescents

Dietary intake data on 4907 adolescent participants in the Ten‐State Nutrition Survey of the U.S.A. show no higher intake of sugar‐foods for obese participants than for lean participants of the same age, sex and race. These findings are consistent with other evidence that obesity is not associated with an increased preference for sucrose‐containing foods and suggest that taste is not a factor in adolescent obesity.
