SUMMARY
1) | The oxidation-reduction potential was determined with platinum electrodes. pH in sea bottoms was determined by the hydroquinon-quinhydron method. This method is unsuitable only in bottoms containing high oxides of manganese. In such cases the determination may be made by the antimony electrode or glass electrode.
2) | Oxidation-reduction potentials and pH were determined in the sediments of the Polar Basin, the Barents Sea, the Kara Sea and the Caspian Sea in upper and underlying bottoms.
3) | The conditions for the formation of oxidized manganese sediments in the sea Were studied.
4) | The formation of layers of oxidized manganese films in some districts of the Caspian Sea with a low contents of dissolved oxygene were observed. |
